A Snapshot Into Fred Terry’s Journey at Lynn & Post Grad Life

During his time at Lynn, Fred Terry, (class of 2024) was able to elevate his photography skills through doing shoots with different on campus organizations, professors and students.

Terry first fell in love with photography when he realized the raw emotions it can capture. He’s explored many different types of photography, specifically in fashion, always priding himself on creativity.

“When it comes to fashion, it’s very similar to photography,” said Terry. “You can throw a bunch of different things together and make something completely new and cool.”

He began his photography company, Great Time Portraits, in March of 2023, doing photoshoots with his friends and clubs.

“None of these clubs had a photographer,” said Terry. “I told them not to worry about paying me and I used this opportunity to promote my services and build my portfolio.”

Quickly, word began to spread of his photography services on social media and at Lynn, eventually reaching Associate Professor of Digital Art and Design, Ellen Stern. Once seeing his work, Stern began reaching out to Terry anytime she needed assistance with photos for on campus events.

He assisted with taking headshots and photos for different on campus events, eventually being approached by Carrie Simpson, regarding Celebration of the Arts. Although Terry had never taken photos of a theatrical production before, he was up for the challenge.

Photos were taken by Terry, then turned into cartoon-like illustrations to be hung outside the World Performing Arts Center, promoting Celebration of The Arts (N. Barclay, 2024).

“The big comic banner outside the event and the smaller ones inside were all taken by me,” said Terry. “Everything everyone was staring at was my work which was wild.”

Additionally, Terry was approached by Dean Cesar Santalo to photograph the 2024 Lynn Fashion Showcase, We Are The One Percent, last March.

“It was one of my favorite events I’ve photographed,” said Terry. “I loved highlighting people of different backgrounds and highlighting sustainable fashion.”

Following graduation last May, Terry made the decision to continue his education by pursuing a Masters Degree in Communication and Digital Media along with continuing his work with Great Time Portraits.
